ITC Sides With H-P on Patent Cases

March 18th, 2010

Hewlett Packard said Thursday that patent complaints it filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) against 11 ink cartridge suppliers have been resolved.

What does this mean for the average ink consumer? Sounds like there’s no relief in sight for inflated ink costs. Here’s the key phrase from the story:

“HP said that InkPlusToner.com and Comptree Ink have agreed that to stop selling the cartridges in question and paid an undisclosed sum of money.”

Patents are a powerful thing…

CNET Ranks Five Best Printers

March 12th, 2010

Justin Yu over at CNET recently wrote about the top five printers on the market. It’s a tough call, but here’s what he came up with:

“We’ve picked the five printers, across all categories, with the highest CNET rating from the past calendar year to satisfy your curiosity.”

The list includes two HPs, two Lexmarks and one Epson. Of course, no matter which printer you buy you still have to buy ink and when it comes to ink savings it won’t matter which printer you use as long as you use PretonSaver Home.

Green Living a ‘Religious Experience’ for Some

March 10th, 2010

There are plenty of good reasons to reduce, reuse and recycle. But you don’t often find people who make the connection between living green and God. That’s why we were pleased to find Creation Hope on the web recently. Creation Hope is dedicated to taking care of “God’s creation.” We couldn’t agree more.

PretonSaver from HalfTheInk will help you save ink, which in return will mean you’ll buy fewer ink cartridges and therefore dispose of fewer ink cartridges in landfills. That’s taking care of the planet!

HP: Ink Cartridge Refills Can Mean Wasted Money

March 8th, 2010

Looks like even printer giant Hewlett Packard knows refilling old ink cartridges is not a solution to saving money on ink. In a recent article on its web site HP wrote: “At first glance, printer ink refills look like a bargain. Sure, they cost less. They also may deliver less.”

What would really be great is if you could print using original ink at the cost of a bargain ink. Well, you can!

Using original ink has clear advantages over bargain ink — you print more pages per cartridge and you avoid cartridge problems.  However, original ink is twice as expensive (and some time even more) than bargain ink. HP states that using HP original ink you can get up to 65% more pages than with bargain ink.  Unfortunately, you’re not saving much if anything because HP original ink is more than 100% more expensive than bargain ink

But by using PretonSaver Home you can save at least 35% of your ink consumption. If you do the math, you will pay 250% more by simply continuing to buy HP ink versus using original ink with PretonSaver Home. And you do so without using bargain ink!

Doing the math you will find that now you can pay up to 250% (2.5 times) more for  HP original ink and yet the cost per printed page will be lower than the cost per page using bargain ink.

Typical Household Spending $200-$350 Per Year on Ink

February 22nd, 2010

The typical household spends anywhere from $200 to $350 per year on ink and toner, and the number is even higher for home-based businesses and small office users. Until now, saving ink meant a significant reduction in print quality as consumers were forced to trade quality for savings by using a printer’s “economy-mode,” replacing a print driver, or using any number of software products that promised savings but delivered mediocre quality.

PretonSaverTM uses patent-pending technology called Pixel Optimizer™ that incorporates mathematical algorithms to identify and delete wasteful pixels during printing. PretonSaverTM technology developed by Preton Ltd.  in 2005, is used by hundreds of thousands of enterprise users around the world; however, this is the first time Preton is offering a product for the home and home office market in North America.

HalfTheInk Announces Partnership with PrintCountry.com

February 17th, 2010

When it comes to conservation, most people know about recycling paper, plastics, glass and even batteries, cell phones and the oil from a car engine. Some are more green-conscious and use energy-saving light bulbs, hybrid cars, solar heating, captured rainwater or organic food. But not many think about the printer ink and toner cartridges from their home printer.

“Each year, it’s estimated that almost 350 million printer cartridges end up in landfills,” says Serhat Pala, president of PrintCountry.com. “Ninety percent of printer ink cartridges are thrown away, and that number is growing by ten percent a year. Most discarded cartridges still have ink in them that can seep into the ground, causing widespread soil damage. Obviously, this has an adverse effect on our environment.”

PrintCountry.com is announcing a partnership with HalfTheInk.com to help customers save both money and printer ink. It’s estimated that a typical household spends between $200 to $350 a year on printer ink and toner. Beginning today, selected PrintCountry website visitors will receive a free trail of PretonSaver™ Home printer ink saving software, which saves up to 70 percent on printer ink and toner usage.

“The software is not only very easy to use, it’s ‘green,’ which means it’s good for the environment,” says Pala. “Though it might mean our customers will buy less ink from us, we feel the long-term impact on the environment is important. I think our customers will appreciate that, too. They will certainly welcome the savings, which is why they shop with us in the first place. It’s our hope that other suppliers will recognize the need for greater environmental responsibility in our industry.”

Help Keep Ink Cartridges Out of Landfills

February 16th, 2010

Did you know that using PretonSaver helps save the environment? It’s true. When you save ink with PretonSaver, you use fewer cartridges, thus fewer cartridges need to be manufactured and therefore fewer will end up in landfills. One and a half billion ink cartridges and 350 million laser cartridges are dumped every year, a figure that increases by 12% every year.

Additionally, it takes nearly a gallon of fossil oil to produce one laser cartridge and 2.5 ounces of oil to manufacture one ink cartridge, not counting the energy required in the production process.

Saving ink makes environmental sense for a lot of reasons. That alone makes using PretonSaver a smart decision. Of course, you’ll save money too…which is not a bad reason either!

Which Costs More: Ink or Dom Perignon?

February 12th, 2010

Well it might seem obvious, but the fact is that printer ink is the most expensive liquid on the planet. For the price of one milliliter of black ink you can buy 20 milliliters of the world’s finest champagne.

The reason it’s so expensive is because we keep paying for it! Printer ink is a scam, just like buying blades to shave with. Company’s give away the razor because they know you’ll have to keep buying new blades. The same is true about ink. In fact, oftentimes it’s cheaper to buy a new printer than buy one color and one black ink cartridge. How is that possible?

Ink prices aren’t coming down any time soon, so that’s why software like PretonSaver Home is so important. PretonSaver flat out works and it’s not rocket science. The software simply eliminates overlap areas so you use less ink. Up to 70% less. That’s savings that adds up fast. So fast that the software pays for itself in a very short time — often in as little as a couple of months. After that, it’s pure savings.
